Medical Tax Accountants was founded on a simple frustration: a GP with four income streams and three pension positions couldn't find an accountant who understood any of them properly. So he built one.
One of our founders is a practising GP partner — and like most modern GPs, his working life never fitted in one box. Partnership profits from the practice. Locum sessions on top. Out-of-hours work. Other professional income alongside. Four income streams, taxed three different ways, with pension positions that interact in ways even good accountants rarely see.
Finding someone to handle it properly proved almost impossible. High-street generalists did their best but didn't know a Type 1 certificate from a Type 2. Bigger firms understood the technical side but treated him as a reference number — a different junior each year, questions answered slowly, advice delivered in jargon.
Every colleague he asked told the same story. Medical professionals everywhere were paying specialist fees for generalist service — or generalist fees for work that quietly missed things.
Rather than keep searching for a firm that didn't exist, he built it — alongside a co-founder who brought the other half of the equation: an accountant and tax advisor trained at a Big4 firm, with the technical rigour that training instils, who wanted to apply it somewhere it genuinely mattered.
That pairing is the whole idea of Medical Tax Accountants. One founder lives the client's problem — the NHS pension forms, the shifting income streams, the practice meetings — and the other brings the discipline to solve it properly, to a standard the biggest firms would recognise.
The result is a practice that works exclusively with medical professionals: doctors, dentists, pharmacists, practices, clinics and the healthcare professionals around them. Nothing else. Because specialism isn't a marketing line — it's the entire reason we exist.
Most accountancy firms offer one or the other. The reason clients stay with us is that they get both, on every piece of work.
Type 1 and Type 2 certificates, annual allowance statements, locum invoicing, practice drawings — our founder deals with the same paperwork our clients do. Advice lands differently when it comes from lived experience rather than a textbook.
Big4 training is the most demanding grounding the profession offers — rigorous review, documented reasoning, nothing signed off on a hunch. That discipline runs through every set of accounts and every piece of advice we produce.
You deal with a named person who knows your situation — not a call centre, not a different junior every year. When your circumstances change, we already have the context.
You translate medicine for your patients; we translate tax for you. Every letter, every set of accounts, every recommendation comes with the reasoning in words a busy clinician can act on between appointments.
If a limited company won't save you money, we'll say so. If your current setup is fine, we'll tell you. Fixed fees agreed upfront, no upsells engineered into every conversation — advice you'd give a colleague, not a sales target.
Returns filed early so January's bill is known in October. Pension positions reviewed before elections close, not after. The whole point of a specialist is seeing what's coming — so we plan forwards, not report backwards.
Every client is a doctor, dentist, pharmacist, healthcare professional, practice or clinic. That focus is why the unusual stuff — pension certificates, PCN money, healthcare VAT — is our everyday work rather than an annual adventure.
Whatever your corner of medicine, there's a page written for it: locum GPs, GP partners, GP practices, consultants and surgeons, dentists, pharmacists, private clinics and other healthcare professionals.
And if your situation spans several of those at once — that's not a complication to us. That's the exact problem this firm was founded to solve.
